Moped driver dead after hit-and-run crash in Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A moped driver died after they were involved in a hit-and-run crash in Tampa early Friday.

The Tampa Police Department said the crash happened at the intersection of East Hillsborough Avenue and North 50th Street just before 4 a.m. The moped driver, who was not identified, was in critical condition after the crash but later died. The other driver fled the scene.

Officers provided no information about the other vehicle involved in the hit-and-run.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The eastbound and westbound lanes of East Hillsborough Avenue from North 47th Street to North 50th Street were closed for about five hours. The roads reopened just after 9 a.m.
