NEW YORK (PIX11) — As the Yankees opened up the season Thursday afternoon in Houston against the Astros, there is nothing like Opening Day to the MLB season.

The Yankees’ win total for the season was set at 91.5 wins. The offense is expected to be dynamic, and the starting rotation leaves you wanting for sure. The Bombers are looking to get back to and win a World Series for the first time since 2009.

For the manager Aaron Boone, he is entering the final year of his contract, there is a club option for 2025. He is entering his 7th year as Yankees manager; his regular season record is 509-261, a .585 win percentage.

He is generous and likable. He gives you a good quote for the most part and is the modern-day major-league manager. He is a collaborator.

He works well with others and is also in favor of the use of analytics. During his six seasons as Yankees manager, there is no question that he has been maligned by the Yankees fan base.

Questionable line-up configuration, bullpen use, and so on and so on. For MLB managers in 2024, they only control so much. We are a long way away from those days when the manager had complete control of running his team.

Modern-day baseball is more of a group effort.  The Yankees finished last season at 82-80, and even though Boone has a very good relationship with both Owner Hal Steinbrenner and GM Brian Cashman,  there is no doubt pressure this year for the Yankees to win.

Last year was deemed unacceptable, and the Yankees made a number of moves to go ‘all-in’ this season. With that, there is now even more pressure on Boone because if the Yankees fail once again, change will undoubtedly happen.

Until next time, New York, I’m Marc Malusis.
