Moores Mill Volunteer Fire/Rescue receives donation from Alder Spring Volunteer Fire Dept.

MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — Help has arrived for Moores Mill Volunteer Fire/Rescue after the department shared with News 19 in April they are facing funding challenges due to an increase in recruits. The Alder Springs Volunteer Fire Department has stepped up to assist, hand-delivering turnouts to Moores Mill Tuesday evening.

“When we started, we needed help,” Alder Springs Volunteer Fire Department Capt. Buck Brown stated. “We didn’t have anything, and we know how it feels not to have anything.”

The turnouts are used, but they will help incoming recruits get used to the gear as they train.

Alder Springs also delivered a thermal imager device, which is used to help locate potential victims in a fire.

“As the money comes in, we get cameras and take them to the departments that don’t have them,” Brown stated.

Moores Mill Volunteer Fire/Rescue Chief Lynn Gann says the donated equipment will help their department better train its recruits to serve the community.

“Our area is growing so quickly out here,” Chief Gann said. “The EMTs and the firefighters that we have are under a lot of stress because of the demand that we have.”

Moores Mill Volunteer Fire/Rescue Recruit Alyssa Kennedy says she’s grateful for the community support and is encouraging people to keep their volunteer fire departments in mind.

“It’s going to, honestly, benefit them in the long run more than it’s going to benefit us,” Kennedy stated. “They’re going to have us on scene faster with better equipment and well-geared people. We’re going to be ready for anything.”

Moores Mill Volunteer Fire/Rescue says they currently have around 15 recruits.
