Montour County drug take-back event scheduled for Saturday

Apr. 23—DANVILLE — Montour County will participate in the Drug Enforcement Administration's National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day this weekend.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Montour County Courthouse where everyone is invited to bring expired or unwanted medications for disposal, according to a press release.

The service, organized by Montour County District Attorney Angela Mattis and Drug Task Force Supervisor Ray Gerringer, is free and anonymous. Medications will be accepted for disposal with no questions asked, according to the organizers.

"Old prescription medications that remain in homes are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse," the press release said. "Improper disposal of prescription medication can result in not only illegal use but also contamination of the environment."

More than 300 tons of prescription drugs were turned over at more than 4,300 sites across the nation during the most recent take-back event last October, according to the release.
