Montclair police officer shot: officials

MONTCLAIR, N.J. (PIX11) – A police officer was shot in Montclair, New Jersey, Monday afternoon, authorities said.

The incident happened in a neighborhood in the 100 block of Forest Street in Montclair, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

A person who lives in the neighborhood shot the officer, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. Police returned fire and shot the person, authorities said. Multiple witnesses said the suspect is a woman.

“I can confirm that a police officer and a civilian have been transported to University Hospital in Newark for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating,” Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Fennelly said.

The incident happened just a few blocks away from Montclair High School.

“The school is not involved, and there is no potential threat to it,” the Township of Montclair posted on social media.
