Monroe County restaurant inspections for April 22-28

These establishments in Monroe County were inspected between April 22 and 28, according to Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture records. This list also includes earlier inspections for which reports became available after the list for that time period was published.

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture provides this disclosure: "Please remember that any inspection is a 'snapshot' of the day and time of the inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term cleanliness of an establishment. Also, at the time of the inspection, violations are recorded but are often corrected on site prior to the inspector leaving the establishment."

Out of compliance

Domino’s: 314 Lincoln Ave., East Stroudsburg

Inspected April 4. Jurisdiction: East Stroudsburg Borough. Violations: 5

Inspector observed the handwash sink in the front area did not have water that was at least 100 degrees; the handwash sink in the rear area had hot water, but was not convenient and easily accessible to employees working in the front; the rear handwash sink was blocked by a ladder and mop bucket; the paper towel dispenser at the rear handwash sink was empty; and mops not being hung to air dry.

Vintage Inn Hotel: 655 Main St., Tobyhanna

Inspected April 1. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 10

Inspector determined the person in charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety. Inspector observed raw beef above ready-to-eat foods in the kitchen bain marie; a buildup of old food and old food residue inside the microwave oven; Department of Environmental Protection had not approved facility to operate as a public water source; no handwash sinks in the kitchen or the bar area; no utility sink or curbed cleaning facility with a floor drain; no covered waste receptacle for sanitary napkins in the women's toilet room; no self-closing door for the women's bathroom; no sign or poster at the handwash sink in the restroom areas to remind food employees to wash their hands; and working containers in the bar area, used for storing chemicals/cleaners taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical.

At a follow-up inspection on April 5, the facility did not have the DEP approval yet.

An inspection on April 10 found no violations.

El Cocinero Restaurant: 1240 N. 9th St., Stroudsburg

Inspected April 9. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 13

Inspector determined the person in charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety. Inspector observed a food employee washing their hands at the warewash sanitizer basin sink rather than the designated handwash sink; a food employee working with exposed foods with fingernail polish and/or artificial fingernails; food employees not wearing proper hair restraints in the food prep area; bulk sugar storage containers in the cook line area not labeled with the common name of the food; bowls with no handles stored in bulk food ingredient containers; chicken-based soup/stew not cooled properly after preparation (voluntarily disposed of during the inspection); soup/stew being cooled in large stock pots in a refrigerated unit (not a proper cooling method); chicken and beef received that day held at a too high a temperature (moved to walk-in cooler); internal surfaces of the microwave oven deteriorated, chipping paint and in disrepair (removed from service during the inspection); old food residue, dishes and utensils in the handwash sink; soap unavailable at the handwash sink in both food prep areas; and empty paper towel dispenser at the handwash sink in both food prep areas.

Inspected April 9. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 7

Inspector observed time in lieu of temperature being used as a control for potentially hazardous foods, but beef patties being held for more than four hours (voluntarily disposed of during the inspection); old food residue on the deli slicer, chef knife blade and manual can opener blade; dirt and soil accumulated on the blender unit (non-food contact surface) in the lower level food prep area; original certificate for the certified food employee not posted in public view; an insect control device located in the dough mixing area with potential to contaminate food, equipment, and/or utensils; water-damaged above the prep area in need of replacement; and a buildup of grease on the fire suppression system and interior hood ventilation system.

Inspected April 22. Jurisdiction: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Violations: 1

Inspector observed buildups of dust and dirt on the fan guards in the café, fresh produce and milk walk-in coolers.

Inspector observed prepackaged food was not labeled to clearly indicate any "Big 9" allergen ingredients and/or the allergen warning statement. (Sushi containing sesame.)
