Modesto Police kicking-off weekend with DUI checkpoint

(FOX40.COM) — The Modesto Police Department is starting their weekend with a DUI checkpoint, starting on Friday night.

From 6:30 p.m. on Friday to 1:30 a.m. on Saturday a DUI checkpoint will be operating within the City of Modesto at an undisclosed location.

The location will be selected based on the frequency of impaired driving in a given area.

“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Sergeant Robert Hall said. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety.”

Officers will be looking for drivers under the influence of alcohol as well as, prescription medications and marijuana.

“Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license,” Modesto Police wrote in a news release.
