Mobile Police to residents amid rash of car break-ins: lock your doors

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Mobile Police Department wants drivers to lock their vehicles amid a reported increase in area break-ins.

An MPD news release said 21 vehicle burglaries were reported in the West Mobile area the week of April 14.

The week before that, eight vehicle burglaries were allegedly reported.

A juvenile was arrested on Friday in connection with 20 of the vehicle burglaries as well as two residential burglaries at an apartment complex, according to the release.

Police say in most of those cases, weapons and valuables were left inside the unlocked vehicles.

“The Mobile Police Department reminds you to lock your doors and keep valuables out of sight,” the release said.

“Most importantly, we urge drivers to never leave a weapon inside of an unlocked vehicle.”
