MLB probes betting scandal surrounding Shohei Ohtani

STORY: Major League Baseball launched a probe into Shohei Ohtani, one of the biggest names in baseball, and his long-time interpreter Ippei Mizuhara on Friday.
That's after the LA Dodgers fired Mizuhara this week, and Ohtani's lawyers alleged the interpreter engaged in "massive theft".
An MLB spokesperson said the League has been gathering information about the allegations involving both Ohtani and Mizuhara from the news media and have begun formally investigating the matter.
Allegations that Mizuhara stole money to pay off gambling debts surfaced during the Seoul Series, with games between the Dodgers and the San Diego Padres.
Reports say the money allegedly went to a Southern California bookmaker who is under federal investigation.
Ohtani's lawyers did not respond to a request for comment.
Ohtani, who plays for the LA Dodgers, has won two American League MVP awards.
He also inked a $700 million contract with the Dodgers in the offseason.
