Mississippi man charged in triple homicide near casino, other violent crimes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A second man who has been charged in the Tunica County homicide that claimed the lives of two men and a pregnant woman has also been connected to several other violent crimes.

The Tunica County Sheriff’s Office says 20-year-old Anthony “A.J.” Carter, Jr., has been charged with capital murder, conspiracy to commit a crime, drive-by shooting, and shooting into a motor vehicle.

On November 10, 2023, three people were found dead in a vehicle on Casino Center Boulevard in Robinsonville. The vehicle was burned and had bullet holes.

The sheriff’s office says that 23-year-old-old Steven Burts and 25-year-old Tednequa Moore had been shot to death. Another victim, 24-year-old Deshun Isabell, died from injuries he sustained in a car crash caused by the shooting, the sheriff’s office says.

Moore was pregnant at the time of her death. She and Isabell also had a young daughter together.

Tunica County Sheriff’s Office says Carter had previously fired shots at both Burts and Isabell. Burts was reportedly targeted in a drive-by shooting that happened on October 26, 2023, in the White Oak Community. Isabell had been targeted in a drive-by that happened on November 1, 2023, in the same area.

The sheriff’s office says Carter is also being charged with attempted murder and drive-by shooting in both incidents.

County seeks capital murder charge after triple homicide near Mississippi casinos

In addition to those charges, Carter is also accused of attempted murder in an incident involving two victims that happened on April 4, 2023. The sheriff’s office has not released details on that incident.

Tunica County Sheriff’s Office says Carter is currently being held at the Tunica County Jail for the April 4 incident. He is also reportedly being held on drug and weapon charges, as well as contributing to the delinquency of minors.

Another suspect, 18-year-old Deonte Taylor, had previously been charged in the triple homicide. The sheriff’s office says Taylor remains in custody at the Tunica County Jail.
