The season will open at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, according to an MDMR release.

Although the date for the opening season is scheduled, the release noted that “staff will continue to sample prior to the opening date” and that, “the shrimp season opening date may be postponed if sampling indicates the movement of large numbers of juvenile brown shrimp into this area.”

During the shrimping season, MDMR said regulations “will be in full force and effect.” Specifically, the release notes that all boats engaged in catching or transporting shrimp from Mississippi waters must be licensed or permitted.
