Minors arrested after stolen Kia sedan crashes in Madera, police say

MADERA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A group of minors who stole a Kia sedan and then crashed it in Madera, before fleeing the scene, have been apprehended, according to the Madera Police Department.

In a post on social media on Friday, officers say they have experienced a spike in the number of Hyundai and Kia thefts.

The most recent incident involved “suspects who entered our city,” according to Madera PD.

Officers say the suspects were linked to several Kia and Hyundai thefts that took place within minutes.

According to the social media post, officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver refused to yield and collided with a signal light on S. Gateway Dr. and E. Olive Ave.

The minor suspects fled on foot but were apprehended following a short chase.

Police advise Kia or Hyundai owners to get a software upgrade at the dealership, or place an anti-theft device on the steering wheel when away from home.

The identities of the minor suspects were not officially released.
