Mimosa Lane, Mahaney Avenue to become right-turn-only at U.S.-62 in Tahlequah

May 16—Motorists will only be able to make right-hand turns onto Mimosa Lane and Mahaney Avenue at U.S. Highway 62 in Tahlequah beginning Tuesday, May 21.

In the interest of safety, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation is modifying the intersection to prohibit left-hand turns off of Mimosa Lane and Mahaney Avenue onto Bertha Parker Bypass. Vehicles also won't be allowed to cross over the four-lane bypass.

During a Tahlequah City Council meeting on April 4, Compliance Coordinator Ray Hammons described the area as a "hotspot" for accidents.

"It's the intersection across from Rib Crib and Century 21," Hammons said.

Mimosa runs between the bypass and Muskogee Avenue, and Mahaney runs from the bypass past McDonald's and toward Reasor's.

Hammons said ODOT is closing the segment temporarily until the changes can be made permanent.

"We met with ODOT to get a game plan and they recommended some temporary improvements to reduce the turning movements and cross traffic," said Taylor Tannehill, city administrator.
