Millersport news: MHS Alumni Banquet to be held May 25

The 95th Millersport High School Alumni Banquet will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 25 in the Walnut Township District Auditorium, 11850 Lancaster Street in Millersport. The dinner buffet includes two entrees, side dishes, beverages and desserts. The cost is $22 per person. Checks should be made payable to the Millersport Alumni Association and sent to Jim Roshon, 11657 Summerland Beach Road, Millersport, Ohio, 43046. Please include the year of graduation on the memo line of the check. Reservations need to be made no later than May 20. Those not attending are asked to send $1 to defray the mailing cost. Cruisin' on the Commons

The year’s first Cruisin’ on the Commons will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 17, at the Millersport Lions Park, Home of the Sweet Corn Festival, 2905 Chautauqua Boulevard in Millersport. Registration will be from 5 to 7 p.m. for cars, trucks and motorcycles at $15 each. There will be trophies for groups pre-1944, 1945-1964, 1965-1984, 1985-2004, 2005-2024, Best of Show and Top Choice. Come out for lots of fun, music, food, door prizes and 50/50 drawing. Walnut Township Trustees

The Walnut Township Trustees met in regular session May 7 in the township office. Trustee Chairman Bill Yates opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. The official bid ppening for the 2024 Road Paving per the Roads Supervisor’s Bid Package was held with Shelley Company getting the contract.

Fairfield County Sheriff Deputy Sgt. Burke was present giving the monthly statistics report. He announced that this would be his last meeting as he will be retiring at the end of May. The township thanks him for his service and presence at township meetings, answering concerns of the residents.

Mike Fornataro with Buckeye Lake Region Corporation was present to discuss the new Fairfield Beach Signage.During the time for “comments from the floor” a fence dispute was raised, questions concerning the salt barn, future work at the park on Lieb’s Island, comments concerning the upcoming Bike Buckeye Lake meeting, and the hearing at the Liberty Center at 10:30 a.m. May 21.

Township Administrator Tammy Oliver reported on insurance, tech grant, business cards, OTARMA appraisal, Notary, phones and rearranging of office areas.

Walnut Township Fire Department Chief Price reported there were 122 runs for the month of April, Take Back Day, Rock the Block at the Lions Park, EMS billing, fire levy information, attendance at the Thurston Safety Committee meeting.

Regional Planning report by Robert Slater on their latest meeting.

Zoning Inspector Mike Berry reported on permits, variances, letters, citations, and phone calls.

Nathan Wagner reported on tree issues at Runkle Park.

Nathan Wagner, Roads Supervisor, reported on Southbank Road/Columbia Gas repairs, culvert work, mowing, spraying, road patching, ditch work, and tornado shelter update.

Items of old business included discussions on status of Community Project Grant for Lakeside Phase 2, junk cars and tall grass issues, salt storage building schedule update, tornado shelter update, boat dock rental update, and fire levy.

Items of new business included discussion on the Feeder Creek Floodplain letter to ODNR.
