Military families get free visits to Wichita museums

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Military families can get free admission at six Wichita museums this summer. The museums have partnered with the Blue Star Museums program for the season.

The program allows active-duty military personnel and their families to receive free admission to participating arts and cultural attractions from Armed Forces Day on May 18 through Labor Day on Sept. 2.

More than 200 museums and attractions across America are participating in the program. These are the ones in Wichita:

  • Botanica, the Wichita Gardens

  • Exploration Place

  • Kansas Aviation Museum

  • Old Cowtown Museum

  • Wichita Art Museum

  • Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum

The Blue Star Museums program is for current members of the:

  • Air Force

  • Army

  • Coast Guard

  • Marine Corps

  • Navy

  • Space Force

  • The Reserves

  • National Guard

  • U.S. Public Health Commissioned Corps

  • NOAA Commissioned Corps

The admission includes the active service member and up to five family members.

To get free admission, they need to show a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), DD Form 1173 ID card (dependent ID), DD Form 1173-1 ID card or the Next Generation Uniformed Services (Real) ID card.

The National Endowment for the Arts presents the Blue Star Museums program in collaboration with the Department of Defense and Blue Star Families.
