Mid Tap celebrates new beginnings after being closed during pandemic

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Mid Tap restaurant in Baton Rouge is again open for business.

Owner of Mid Tap and Tap 65, Rick Patel, said the business experienced some challenges with the restaurant, but he didn’t let it defeat him.

“During Covid, um, you know, we were closed down multiple times and we had to reopen and close down and reopen and close down. Guests that were traveling from far, you know, they started not traveling as much,” Patel said.

Patel said COVID-19 allowed his business to acclimate to change.

“You know, we were able to overcome a lot of those issues by adapting and changing and making our environment open and inhabitable by our guests,” Patel said. “It means a lot in the community when you have the support of your staff of the community, of the businesses. A combined effort to make this a reality.”

Baton Rouge run/walk raising money for charity

Andrew Fitzgerald, senior vice president of business intelligence at the Baton Rouge Area Chamber, has the data to prove that businesses grew during the pandemic.

“We’ve seen incredible business growth since the start of the pandemic actually. The region added 4,000 new businesses, about 2,500 of those have been in East Baton Rouge Parish,” said Fitzgerald.

No matter what the struggle was, Patel told BRProud that failure was never an option. He said support from local businesses helped his restaurant.

Jermey Rasti, another local business owner, played a large role in helping to resurrect Mid Tap.

“Supporting local businesses is really what keeps this town running right. We find that gets returned kind of 10 folds to us as well,” Rasti said.

Mid Tap’s grand re-opening will be at noon Saturday, March 23.

Happy hour is from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday-Friday. Half-off signature cocktails are offered during happy hour.
