Michigan severe thunderstorms: Live weather, radar updates
Thunderstorms that produce high winds, heavy downpours and lightning crossed through southeast Michigan on Wednesday afternoon.
The NWS warned the storms could bring damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph, hail up to 1 inch and possible tornadoes.
All of southeast Michigan is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 7 p.m.

3:40 p.m.: Severe thunderstorm warning in Detroit
The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for most of Wayne County until 4:30 p.m., along with parts of Oakland and Macomb counties until 4:45 p.m.

3:06 p.m.: Severe thunderstorm warning for Livingston, Lenawee, Shiawassee and Washtenaw counties
The National Weather Service issued severe thunderstorm warnings for Livingston County and Shiawassee County until 3:45 p.m.; Lenawee County until 3:30 p.m.; and Washtenaw County and Monroe County until 4 p.m.
A special weather statement was also issued for Wayne, Oakland and Genesee counties, which include Detroit, Pontiac and Flint. Half-inch sized hail is possible, along with 50 mph winds.

1:42 p.m.: Tornado warning for Lansing area
The NWS' Grand Rapids office issued a tornado warning for Lansing, East Lansing and Holt until 2:30 p.m.

Michigan lawmakers sheltered in place during the warning. State Rep. John Fitzgerald, D-Wyoming posted a photo on X of lawmakers gathered together.

Michigan State University also warned its community to take shelter during the warning.
The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Warning in the East Lansing area until 2:30 p.m. EST. Please take shelter now in a basement or interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. If you are outdoors or in a vehicle, move to the closest shelter location. pic.twitter.com/C9lz1yCsF4
