(NewsNation) — “Boardwalk Empire” actor Michael Stuhlbarg was attacked Sunday evening near Central Park in New York, multiple news outlets confirmed Monday.

The New York Police Department, in a statement shared with NewsNation, said officers responded to a 911 call of an assault “in the vicinity of 90th Street and East Drive.” The victim, identified only as a 55-year-old man, had been in the head by a rock, investigators later determined.

The New York Times and People identified the victim as Stuhlbarg. When asked specifically about the victim’s identity, the NYPD also provided NewsNation with a statement concerning the same incident described above.

Stuhlbarg’s film credits include “Call Me By Your Name” and “The Shape of Water.” He was also nominated for a Golden Globe for his role in “A Serious Man,” and earned two Primetime Emmy nods for his work in “The Looming Tower” and “Dopesick.”

Stuhlbarg is also starring in the new Broadway play “Patriots,” which begins previews Monday. A representative for the production told The New York Times that the actor would be taking the stage for the debut performance of the play, about Vladimir Putin and Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky.
