WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – The man who was once known as the fixer for Donald Trump testified against him Monday at the former president’s criminal trial in New York.

Michael Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer, is expected back on the witness stand where he is likely to face hostile cross-examination from Trump’s legal team.

Trump left the New York courthouse once again railing against his criminal trial.

“I’m innocent. This is a political witch hunt,” said Trump.

The prosecution’s star witness Michael Cohen delivered bombshell testimony, detailing so-called “catch and kill” operations to squash unfavorable press reports about his former boss.

At one point telling the jury, “What I was doing was at the direction of and benefit of Mr. Trump.”

The former president is charged with illegally falsifying business records to cover up hush money payments that his former lawyer made to an adult film star.

Trump denies the encounter and has pleaded not guilty to charges, but defending Trump outside of the courtroom was a group of Republican lawmakers like Ohio Senator J.D. Vance and Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville.

” I think this trial is absolutely ridiculous. I think it’s a sham prosecution,” said Vance.

Tuberville says the trial is politically motivated.

“The Democrats are trying to beat President Trump in the jury box because they can’t beat him at the ballot box,” said Tuberville.

The prosecution is expected to wrap up its case later this week.
