Metro unveils new trains, buses at ‘Fleet of the Future’ Expo at National Mall

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — On Wednesday, Metro unveiled a full-scale mock-up of a new train car and new battery-electric bus at their “Fleet of the Future’ Expo at the National Mall.

The expo gives people a sneak peek at Metro’s new 8000-series train mock-up with an open gangway design, a new 60-foot electric bus, as well as picture opportunities and a chance to get Metro gear.

The new train model promises to be Metro’s most advanced with a new open hall that allows people to move between two cars.

Metro says this will improve safety, and increase passenger flow as well as capacity.

There will also be more seats along the walls that will provide more standing room for passengers and space for people who use mobility devices.

The trains will also have more space for bikes, strollers, and luggage.

Metro’s new buses have zero tailpipe emissions, which means better air quality.

The buses will also have electronic maps, USB charging ports, and new fare boxes.

“We have electronic maps. and new displays like this that show you station ahead, time and temperature, other information you’ll need on the system. video and breaking news crawlers here,” said Lynn Bowersox with SVP Rail Transformation.

Metro is hosting the Fleet of the Future Expo on the National Mall from March 20 to April 3 from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.
