Metro to resume repairs at Stadium-Armory after 5-week pause

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) will resume weekend maintenance and construction at the Stadium-Armory station this weekend.

Metro paused construction for five weeks due to the busy cherry blossom season.

Efforts will continue on Metro’s Aerial Structures Rehabilitation Project on the Blue, Orange and Silver lines. Crews at the station will work to reinforce its structural integrity, closing a section of the track where the three lines intersect, WMATA said in a press release.

Crews will also install radio and fiber-optic cables and repair concrete grout pads, which support the rails.

Free shuttle buses will be offered to transport passengers between Stadium-Armory and Benning Road, meant to replace the Blue and Silver lines. Another shuttle bus will run between Stadium-Armory and Minnesota Ave on the Orange Line.

The temporary construction has created new routes for the Blue, Orange and Silver lines.

On the blue line, trains will run every 15 minutes between Franconia-Springfield and Federal Center SW and every 16 minutes between Benning Road and Downtown Largo.

Trains on the Silver line will run every 15 minutes between Ashburn and Stadium-Armory only.

Construction is planned for April 27 and 28 over the same section.

Riders should also expect track and maintenance work on the Red and Green lines.
