May 21—MercyOne Clinton staff members concluded its third annual Colleague Fund and Human Experience Action Team, or HEAT, fundraiser on Thursday by throwing whipped cream pies into the faces of their colleagues.

"We do amazing things for our colleagues," Amy O'Malley of MercyOne Clinton said. "This all brings back the joy of working for such a great company and community."

For three weeks, MercyOne Clinton staff nominated candidates at a cost of $20 per nomination for the names of other staff members to be put on a ballot and voted for the candidates they hoped to see get pied in the face by putting money into jars placed in hospital common areas.

This year, they raised a total of $1,700, the most raised of any year of the fundraiser. This will go toward funding the hospital's sports teams, an adult women's softball team, a pool night at Clinton Pool, and a family picnic.

Thursday's fundraiser finale in the MercyOne Clinton hospital parking lot coincides with the end of this year's National Hospital Week, May 12-18, during which the innovative ways that hospitals and health systems support and connect to their communities is recognized.
