Mercy opens new women’s center in Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City will be opening its doors come April 7 for its new Love Family Women’s Center, offering new services for women and families.

For many years, the hospital has dealt with being at capacity in its labor, delivery and postpartum services which has been a struggle to serve patients that need the care.

Love Family Women’s hospital was designed to have 15 large labor and delivery rooms with seven antepartum rooms, 47 postpartum rooms and three cesarean rooms with operative recovery rooms.

Not only has Mercy increased the space to provide more care and deliver more births yearly but the new women’s center includes a 24/7 emergency department for urgent pregnancy concerns and will be the first to do so in OKC.

“Our obstetrics ER will be there to provide immediate access for patients who are at least 20 weeks pregnant or up to six weeks postpartum. Patients will be seen by obstetrician hospitalists who are physician experts in pregnancy, giving them peace of mind,” said Dr. Tori O’Daniel, obstetrician hospitalist and chair of obstetrics and gynecology Mercy Hospital OKC.

The center will also include low intervention birth units designed for women who want a more natural and homey feeling, being led by a certified nurse midwife to care for the mother and baby.

From outpatient pelvic floor therapy departments to therapy gyms, and private consultations rooms, every portion of the new center was designed to provide the best care for generations of women and newborns.

Laura Beck, Mercy’s executive director of nursing for women and infant services, says its physicians and nurses helped design the new building with the thought of providing the best services for its patients.

“Our teams have been working to develop programs and processes to best serve families and provide a safe, warm, welcoming and comfortable experience they’ll feel when they walk in the door.”
