The first incident started just before 9:55 p.m., when a trooper tried to stop a Jeep Cherokee for reckless driving on I-495 near S. Van Dorn Street. VSP said that the driver refused to stop, and the trooper started the chase.

During the chase, VSP said that the driver of the Jeep threw a gun out the window that hit the ground and the trooper’s car. The Jeep also hit the trooper’s car near Braddock Road and Twinbrook Road.

VSP said that the Jeep came to a stop on Twinbrook Road.

Troopers took 23-year-old Jevon T. Mark of Reston into custody. The charges against him are assault on a law enforcement officer, eluding police, throwing missiles, reckless driving and hit-and-run.

There were two passengers in the Jeep during the chase. Police detained then released them.

VSP said that the second chase started around 10:45 p.m., when a Maryland law enforcement agency informed VSP about a stolen car traveling across the American Legion Bridge into Virginia.

A trooper saw the stolen Chevrolet on I-495 near Braddock Road and tried to pull the car over.

“The Chevrolet refused to stop, sped away at a high rate of speed, and initiated a pursuit,” VSP said in a news release.

During the chase, the car rammed a VSP car into a barrier. VSP said that the trooper had minor injuries.

The car continued onto I-395, where police brought the car to a stop near the Glebe Road exit. VSP said that the driver “crawled into the trunk of the vehicle to try and hide from troopers.”

VSP took 21-year-old Abiselome Belachew of Reston into custody. Trooper said the charges against him were attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer, hit-and-run, eluding police, auto theft and driving on a suspended license.
