Memorial Day weekend Trolley schedule: service changes to expect

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Memorial Day weekend is in full swing, and many are planning to head into the city to honor the occasion.

From fireworks, concerts and sporting events, there are several happenings taking place in San Diego Saturday through Monday.

With maximum enforcement in effect, California Highway Patrol has encouraged motorists to drive responsibly over the holiday weekend.

What’s closed on Memorial Day in San Diego?

The Metropolitan Transit System has echoed those sentiments, even ramping of Trolley service for those attending weekend San Diego Padres games.

“Baseball fans are encouraged to skip busy traffic and high parking costs by taking transit to Petco Park,” MTS stated in a press release. “To accommodate the large crowds, MTS will increase Trolley service before and after games.”

All three Trolley lines – UC San Diego Blue, Orange and Green – provide direct service to Petco Park. All the extra service details can be found on the MTS Padres vs. Yankees webpage.

The most convenient park and ride lots, according to MTS, include:

— Old Town Transit Center (Blue and Green Line, 400+ free parking spots)

— Grossmont Transit Center (Green and Orange Line, 220 free parking spots)

— El Cajon Transit Center (Green and Orange Line, 400+ free parking spots)

— Amaya Drive (Green and Orange Line, 236 free parking spots)

— Spring Street (Orange Line, 235 free parking spots)

— E Street (Blue Line South, 265 free parking spots)

— Balboa Avenue Transit Center (Blue Line North, 225 free parking spots)

— Tecolote Station (Blue Line North, 275 free parking spots)

On Memorial Day, however, MTS will also operate on a Sunday service schedule for bus routes and Trolley lines.

As an incentive for taking the Trolley Monday, there will be a “Friends Ride Free” holiday promotion in effect. MTS said fare-paying adult passenger can bring one guest on board for free.
