Memorial Day events offered

The following Memorial Day or related events are offered for the public this weekend:

May 25 at 9:15 a.m.: Volunteers will gather at Highland Cemetery to place flags at veterans' gravestones.

May 27 at 9 a.m.: The Terre Haute Police Department will host the Murph Challenge, a fitness challenge, at Memorial Stadium on the Indiana State University campus. The Murph Challenge is named after Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy consisting of a series of exercises including a one-mile run, followed by 100 pullups, 200 pushups, 300 air squats, and concluding with another one-mile run.

May 27 at 11 a.m.: Mayor Brandon Sakbun will speak at Highland Cemetery.

May 27 at 5 p.m. A Banks of the Wabash concert at Fairbanks Park will feature J. C. Clements at 5 p.m. and headliner Duke Tumatoe at 7:30 p.m.

Guests are invited to participate in the Wabash Valley Run for the Fallen anytime through Tuesday evening at Memorial Stadium. Local volunteers placed 7,000 American flags honoring military personnel who perished in Afghanistan and Iraq around the mile-long trail circling the stadium and participants can run, walk or bike around the trail.
