Melania Trump's Absence in the Courtroom Is Ruining This Possible Donald Trump Line of Defense

Donald Trump is facing multiple indictments, but his hush money trial might be his most difficult one to tackle. It’s the case that’s not just about elections or classified documents, it involves his marriage to Melania Trump. While some supporters of the former president will dismiss his infidelity, the issue is causing a problem for his defense team.

We don’t blame the former first lady for staying far away from the courtroom in this case. Who would ever want to hear the sordid details of their husband’s alleged affair with adult star Stormy Daniels? It’s also why his adult children Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and Eric Trump are likely keeping their distance because the “family-man” defense just doesn’t work in this particular situation.

That doesn’t mean his legal team sure didn’t try that angle. “He’s a man. He’s a husband. He’s a father,” Donald Trump’s attorney Todd Blanche told the jury during his opening statement, per Salon. “He’s a person just like you and just like me.” And the press is getting in on the action, asking the former president that glaring question, “Where’s Melania?” It’s no surprise that he was shown by Fox News ignoring that hot topic after his daily press conference.

“It is worth pausing about how unfair, unreal, bizarre, strange, unacceptable, weird, whatever adjective you want to use… that he is there alone in terms of friends and family. I think it is worth pointing out, one, I don’t think he cares,” said niece Mary Trump on MSNBC. “I don’t think it matters to him. That is not where he gets his energy. That is not what gives him solace.” She believes that every “relationship is a transactional one” for the Trump family. She thinks Melania and his adult children aren’t there because “they’re not going to get anything out of it.”

While the trial is about the hush money payment allegedly given to Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election with campaign funds, it’s hard to ignore that Donald Trump was acting like a single man when the affair happened. Melania was home with a newborn and her husband wasn’t giving much thought to them in that moment with Daniels. The family-man defense isn’t working in the court of public opinion, but his legal team hopes it will work for the jury.
