Melania Trump reminds children about the true meaning of the holiday season

Melania Trump is helping to spread Christmas cheer this holiday season! The first lady paid a visit to Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday to continue an annual tradition. President Donald Trump’s wife was on hand to sort and box toys with military families for the Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots campaign.

The program aims to help less fortunate kids throughout the country experience the joy of Christmas, while playing an active role in the development of children. Since her husband took office, Melania has shown an interest in working with children. The mom-of-one was all smiles as she decorated Christmas cards with young boys and girls on December 13.

During the event, Barron Trump’s mother delivered remarks, reflecting on her first year as first lady, while also reminding families about the true meaning of the holidays. “On a personal note, as my first year as first lady comes to an end, I have had the privilege to witness the spirit and resilience of so many people in our country. After this year's devastating hurricane season, I hope everyone watching at home will consider giving back through programs like Toys for Tot,” Melania said.

“I've seen people from all over our great nation pitch in to help those who lost everything, and I want to challenge people to continue with that giving spirit over Christmas and in the new year," the 47-year-old added. “It is my hope that during this holiday season, people will remember it is not about gifts — it is about family, service and gratitude. We must continue to look out for, and help each other.”
