ALLIANCE ‒ It looks like Meijer is planning to open its new Alliance location on May 14.

The supercenter chain has signs near the plaza entrances at 2500 W. State St. that show an opening date. The site is the former Carnation City Mall property.

The chain already has a supercenter in Jackson Township.

Meijer's new North Canton location at 1505 N. Main St. at the former Kmart property also is expected to open next month. No opening date has been given there.

Meijer opened its first store in Greenville, Michigan, in 1934 under the name Meijer’s Grocery. In 1941, the family-owned store opened its second location in Cedar Springs, Michigan.

The company opened its first supercenter in 1962, offering food and general merchandise, and in 1981, Meijer entered the Ohio market.
