Meghan Markle Is Supporting a Cookbook–And the Story Behind It Is Beautiful

Meghan Markle's first solo project is in support of a cookbook by the Hubb Community Kitchen in London. Her love of cooking and giving back combine for an effort we can all support.

The Duchess of Sussex is supporting another good cause, and this one involves food you can make.

Meghan Markle never seizes to amaze us and the most recent bit of news about Prince Harry's wife makes us radiate joy. The Duchess of Sussex just announced her first solo project, and it combines her love of food and giving back.

Meghan will be supporting a charity cookbook, "Together: Our Community Cookbook," as Patron of The Royal Foundation, announced Kensington Palace. The book, with a foreword written by Meghan, is bursting with 50 recipes from the women of the Hubb Community Kitchen in London, which aims to celebrate the power of cooking to strengthen communities. The Hubb Community Kitchen is made up by a group of women that began cooking together for their community twice a week after a devastating fire of a residential building in the summer of 2017 left local women in need of a kitchen to prepare fresh food for their families. The group has since expanded to include women of different cultures, all supporting each other as they cook wholesome meals for their community in need.

Meghan first visited the kitchen in January 2018 and still continues to make private visits. Finding inspiration in how this community came together, Meghan became an advocate of this cookbook project as a way to ensure the community kitchen can keep on affecting lives and communities for the better through the simple act of cooking. “I immediately felt connected to this community kitchen; it is a place for women to laugh, grieve, cry and cook together. Melding cultural identities under a shared roof, it creates a space to feel a sense of normalcy–in its simplest form, the universal need to connect, nurture, and commune through food, through crisis or joy–something we can all relate to… Through this charitable endeavour, the proceeds will allow the kitchen to thrive and keep the global spirit of community alive,” she explained.

We are rooting Meghan on in her first solo project and can’t wait to cook from the book ourselves. Even some of her famous friends like Serena Williams have expressed her pride and excitement in a tweet, “It’s beautiful - diversity, inclusivity, coming together in grief or joy.”
