Meghan Markle Purposely Designed Her Toronto Home to Look Like "A California Bungalow"

In her Vanity Fair cover story, the Suits actress dishes on boyfriend Prince Harry and fighting off Canadian winters with exposed hardwood floors and natural light

Meghan Markle knows how to make a home away from home feel like . . . well, home. In a cover story for Vanity Fair, the Suits actress opened up about her career-making role in the USA Network legal drama, her private life with boyfriend Prince Harry, and making a home for herself in Toronto. Markle, a Los Angeles native, relocated to the Canadian city seven years ago to begin filming Suits. She explained that she has tried to add traces of her California roots to her Toronto home to stave off “seven Canadian winters” ("a long time for someone who grew up in Southern California!"). Some of the interior details Markle is a fan of include exposed hardwood floors and plenty of natural light.

"I was born and raised in Los Angeles, a California girl who lives by the ethos that most things can be cured with either yoga, the beach, or a few avocados," she once wrote on her former lifestyle blog, the Tig (she has since shuttered the website). Markle’s home reflects that love of all things holistic and healthy, with white curtains and sheets giving her rooms a clean, inviting vibe, and plants and books dotting surfaces throughout. The actress has also adorned her home with large works of art that give her home a lived-in, personalized feel. We can only imagine the beachy Californian update Markle plans to give to Kensington Palace someday.
