NEPTUNE, N.J. (PIX11) – Someone in Neptune just got very, very lucky.

One winning Mega Millions ticket — worth a whopping $1.13 billion — was sold at a ShopRite in Neptune, according to lottery officials. It’s the largest jackpot ever won in New Jersey.

Five $50,000 Powerball tickets sold across NY; including two in Queens

“When we say anything can happen in New Jersey we mean it,” said James Carey, Executive Director of the New Jersey Lottery.

The winner has not come forward yet to claim their prize, lottery officials said. But there’s something in it for the Route 66 ShopRite, too — a $30,000 bonus check.

After taxes, the $1.13 billion prize will be taken home as $537.5 million in cash or paid out over time. It’s the eighth largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history, Carey said.

“I’m terribly excited for winners in Neptune. If you live in Neptune, check your ticket,” Carey said.

After the massive win, the Mega Millions jackpot has come back down to just $20 million for Friday’s drawing.

New Jersey hasn’t had a winner in four years, but two people in New York also won $1 million and a third New York resident won $2 million.

The Powerball drawing remains high with an $865 million pot and another shot at winning Wednesday night.

While New York didn’t take home the grand prize, the neighboring state has still been winning big in recent months, including a $1 million Powerball ticket sold in Queens and a number of smaller prizes sold throughout the state.
