McDuffie Co. voters hear from local candidates before next month’s election

MCDUFFIE COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF)- McDuffie County voters got a chance to hear from candidates before next month’s election.

“So, I see a lot of things in juvenile court that I think will make me uniquely qualified to serve you in this new role if I am elected,” said James T Jones.

The Thomson Alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority gave voters in McDuffie County a chance to learn more about the candidates’ platforms.

Thursday’s forum featured candidates  for McDuffie County commission, school board and superior court.  All of them say they have one goal — helping McDuffie County grow.

“But as chairman I think we can work together I can’t do it by myself it’s going to take the whole board to come together to pull a McDuffie County to the level that it needs to be” said   Jarvis McNair, candidate for commission chair.

And candidates say they were trying to reach all of the people who live in  McDuffie County, not just those in their districts.

“I don’t feel like that I’m just a commissioner of the district 2A anybody  who’s reached out to me I’ve tried to help wherever they are in McDuffie County this becomes this comes from my love of McDuffie county” said Gloria Thompson, candidate Commissioner District 2A.

The candidates talked about what makes them qualified to represent the county —many pointing to their experience before running for office.

“ I had the opportunity to build, my knowledge, and vital experience in the court system, as I worked with the teams judicial circuit, and other courts in our area” said Nikki Milburn, candidate for clerk of Superior Court.

“Law research, jury selection, and the handling of various trust bank accounts at some point, all of which entails the  clerk of Superior Court” said Gina Timmerman, candidate for clerk of superior court.

Election Day is May 21st.
