King Charles got a crash course in Love Island from none other than host Maya Jama during a bizarre meeting.

The monarch and the TV presenter met at a Buckingham Palace garden party yesterday (May 15), with Maya taking the opportunity to ask the King if he watched the hit ITV reality show.

When introduced to the King, she said: "I host Love Island. I don't know if you've watched it? It's a dating show."

Seemingly not acquainted with the show, His Majesty joked: "There's one born every minute!"

He asked the presenter about her future plans, with Maya explaining: "I’m just about to go to Spain to film some young people snog someone."

The event, organised to celebrate creative industries, was also attended by Louis Theroux, Sir Ridley Scott and Tracey Emin, with Charles accompanied by Queen Camilla, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Duchess of Gloucester.

Aside from filming Love Island, Maya recently reflected on the "twists and turns" of her own love life after rekindling her romance with rapper Stormzy.

The pair split in 2019 after dating for four years, before getting back together in 2023. Taking to her Instagram Stories last month, Maya shared a poem that seemed to have been sent to her via WhatsApp.

It read: "They say sometimes love starts with a spark. And that might be true, but if I were to wish you a love, I wouldn't wish fire for you.

"Fire is powerful. It burns bright, then it's gone. It's beautiful and warm, but it doesn't last long.

"So instead of wishing you a love that burns. I wish you love like a river that twists and turns.

In another Instagram post, the radio DJ joked that she plans to trick her future children after receiving her very own Brit Award.

Posting a picture of the accolade to her 3.1 million followers, she wrote: "Very cool. My first Brit award. Didn't know you got one for hosting it. [Definitely going to] lie to the future kids and say I was a beatbox prodigy in my teens or something."

Love Island airs on ITV2 and streams on ITVX.
