Maxwell-Roddey’s life celebrated at Charlotte church Thursday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Family and friends are mourning Charlotte African-American community leader Bertha Maxwell-Roddey Thursday.

Maxwell-Roddey’s funeral services will be at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church at 3400 Beatties Ford Road. A memorial service starts at 10 a.m. followed by a Delta Sigma Theta Omega Omega Service at 10:30. Visitation will start at 11:30 a.m. with a celebration of life services at noon.

Charlotte educational pillar, co-founder of Gantt Center Dr. Roddey dies

The woman passed away last week at 93 years old.

Among her many accomplishments, she co-founded the Afro-American Cultural and Service Center, now known as the Harvey B. Gantt Center

Family is asking mourners to refrain from sending flowers. Those wanting to send memorials can contribute to the church’s C. W. Kerry Scholarship Fund or the American Cancer Society’s Brain Cancer Research program.
