SOMERSET ― Marshalls has announced an official opening date for its new Somerset retail store.

According to the store locator page at the Marshalls website, the Somerset location at 1534 N. Center Ave., is scheduled to open on May 16, with operating hours of 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. that day.

After the opening day's special hours, its regular hours of operation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.

The TJX Companies, which operates the Marshalls brand of retail stores, signed a long-term lease in July 2023 to move into the 20,000-square-foot retail space formerly occupied by Merchant Village, a locally owned and operated vendor store, in the Somerset Commons shopping center.

About 60 full- and part-time employees will work at the new store, the release said.

To celebrate the opening of the new Somerset location, Marshalls said it plans to donate $10,000 to Victim Services Inc., an organization that, according to its website, "offers free services for victims of sexual assault, domestic violence and violent crimes in Cambria and Somerset counties."
