Mark Hamill Dyed His Hair Purple — But the Road to 'Recovery' Isn't Easy

Mark Hamill got really into character for his guest stint as “The Trickster,” a purple-haired villain on The Flash. In lieu of using a more temporary solution like Manic Panic, he actually dyed his hair a permanent shade of deep purple. (Maybe his stylist is the real villain here?) Three months later, Hamill is back in the salon and dealing with the consequences.

As Hamill journeyed back to his natural shade, he posted a salon selfie of himself in a cape and foils. He tweeted, “Road to Recovery From the Perils of Purple Hair-Took me 3 dye jobs to get back to normal. #ACautionaryTale #HairDont #DudeWheresYourDignity?”

As new platinum and pastel converts know, the rise of rainbow-colored locks can also coincide with a rise in fried, damaged hair. When vibrant hair color fades, it’s up to the owner to decide whether to re-up on potentially damaging rainbow or let hair heal in its natural shade. It looks like Hamill was ready to be done — and even that can take a few tries, with hair that needs to be stripped of color and then re-dyed, with hopefully a nourishing hair mask in between.

Take care of color-treated hair of all shades with a specially formulated color-safe shampoo. The only worse thing than washing out your highlights? Washing out a rainbow.
