Mark Ballas and BC Jean’s Wedding Vows Inspired Their New Song “Paper Planes”: Watch the Music Video
Dancing With the Stars pro Mark Ballas and singer-songwriter BC Jean are making sweet music after their wedding. The couple, who married last November, debuted their new single, “Paper Planes,” which was inspired by their own wedding vows. The accompanying music video, in fact, includes footage from their eclectic, bohemian-inspired nuptials held outdoors at the Calamigos Ranch in Malibu.
“We folded [our vows] and put them in a box I had,” Ballas told People of the new single. “And we were talking about how cool it would be to write a song that was about [them].”
The couple, whose band name is Alexander Jean, recorded their EP in England, where Ballas was raised.
The accompanying video shows Ballas nervously anticipating the first look on his wedding day with Jean approaching him from behind. There are other clips of their loved ones celebrating with them, including newlywed Julianne Hough and her brother, best man Derek Hough. “‘Paper Planes’ is basically a metaphor for our love,” Jean added to People this week.
Music was an all-important component of the couple’s wedding day—though there may have been a snafu or two: The DJ accidentally played Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” which was supposed to be a cover while the bride walked the aisle.
“It was what we originally thought we wanted to do,” Jean previously told The Knot. “Then we thought, ‘Let’s just keep it classy [without] lyrics, and when we get to the party, we can [rev] it up a bunch. But that’s not what happened, and it was perfect.”
Ballas and Jean’s beloved dog Hendrix also served as the ring bearer in the ceremony. In all, it’s been an incredibly pleasant journey as newlyweds. “Everything gets elevated,” Jean previously told The Knot. “We just look at each other and constantly feel lucky that we’re in this place together. We feel special, and we love each other so much. It’s just been a fun ride, and we’re excited for the adventures to continue. We’re trying to keep the fun, and we’re doing a good job, I think.”
