Mario Lopez and major deals: Curacao celebrating Chula Vista store opening
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Curacao, one of the largest retailers on the West Coast serving a mostly Hispanic clientele, is offering major deals and star-studded celebrations at a grand opening event for its Chula Vista location later this month.
The location opened its doors earlier this year at 555 Broadway, marking its first outpost in San Diego County. Like all the others, the Chula Vista store features Curacao’s signature one-stop shopping experience for high-quality products at a discounted price.
For the grand opening event on Saturday, April 20, however, Curacao says it will be offering even better deals that are “so spectacular it promises to outshine even the most generous Black Friday offers.”

Among the door buster deals Curacao plans to offer are steals like Samsung S24 AI-Enabled Android smartphones for $499, Apple iPhone 15 PROMAXs for $399, 75-inch Samsung TVs for $299, 18 cubic-foot GE refrigerators for $89 and Huffy 12″ Disney Kid’s bikes for $9.
On top of the incredible deals, the grand opening will be filled with family-friendly fun, including live entertainment, complimentary refreshments, a giveaway, and an appearance by Chula Vista native and Emmy Award-winning host, Mario Lopez.
“Today, as the retail landscape becomes ever more dynamic, we at Curacao are thrilled to bring our unique touch to the Chula Vista community,” Teylez Perez, vice president of marketing at Curacao, said in a statement.
“We recognize that our customers are savvy and value conscious. That’s why, in celebration of our Grand Opening, we are excited to offer exclusive deals to the shoppers of Chula Vista,” Perez continued. “We’re not just opening our doors; we’re opening a relationship with every customer who walks through them, promising to meet and exceed expectations from day one.”
Since its founding in Burbank in 1978, Curaco has become a go-to discount retail option for a wide array of customers, but particularly those in Chicano communities due to its lack of credit requirements to buy certain appliances.
This work-around sales program later transformed into its own credit options specifically designed for low-to-moderate income individuals.
Curacao has 13 existing stores across California, Nevada and Arizona — the Chula Vista store being its most recent addition. Another location is slated to open in Tucson later this year.
The grand opening event for the Chula Vista store is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. More details about the event can be found here.
The store’s normal operating hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
