Mario Kart go-kart sold nationwide recalled for crash hazard

(WHTM) – A ride-on Mario Kart go-kart sold online and in major retailers has been recalled after the Consumer Product Safety Commission received over 60 reports of a stuck throttle pedal.

The Mario Kart 24V ride-on racer, manufactured between Oct. 2022 and Jan. 2024 by JAKKS Pacific, is subject to the recall. About 17,500 units are affected by the recall.

One minor injury occurred and there were 15 reports of collisions with buildings after the throttle pedal stuck. In total, 65 reports of stuck pedals were received.

The karts were sold at Target and Walmart both in-store and online, as well as online through Amazon, Macy’s, and Gamestop.

Vehicles with the following date codes on their undercarriage are subject to the recall: 1752VE01, 1782VE01, 1952VE01, 2242VE01, 2352VE01, 2852VE01, 0583VE01. Karts currently being sold are not affected.
