March snowfall helps bring Denver closer to average for the season

DENVER (KDVR) — March has brought several rounds of snow showers to Colorado, but it has not been enough to bring Denver’s snowfall for the season up to average.

So far this season, Denver has picked up 38.3 inches of snow at Denver International Airport, where official measures are taken. While this number is not insignificant, it is still 8.1 inches below normal through the end of March.

A monthly breakdown shows that Denver picked up above-average snowfall in October, followed by below-normal snowfall for November, December and January. February has been Denver’s snowiest month so far with 13.7 inches of snowfall, well above the monthly average of 7.8 inches.

So far in March, Denver has officially picked up 9.2 inches of snowfall at the airport, which is still 2.3 inches below the monthly average of 11.5 inches.

The snow has not just benefitted the metro — as of Wednesday, Colorado’s snowpack was over 100% of normal.

Even though March and April are spring months, they are typically when Denver picks up the most snowfall, with 11.5 inches in March and 8.8 inches of snowfall on average in April.
