Many gather in Evans for ‘gathering of the people pow wow’
EVANS, GA (WJBF)- The ‘gathering of the people pow wow’ brings many people together to dance with a purpose.
” to the native people the pow wow was always a way of gathering to get together when you’ve been away from family for so long and you’re coming back together we run this as a family style pow wow” said Barry Rogers, gathering of the people chairman.
The pow wow has gone on for almost a decade in Evans , Rogers says all tribes are represented and people come from all over the country.
” Well this dance as a whole has been going on for over 40 years under a couple different names several locations in and around Augusta through the years COVID of course messed us up through the years” said Rogers.
From drumming, dancing, to art painting, it’s all about spreading the importance of the native culture.
” tomorrow afternoon we’ll be core dancing at first and then we’ll be tribal dancing tomorrow afternoon tomorrow evening a tribal dance which means anybody can come out and dance”
