Man, woman injured after motorcycle crash in Ocean Beach

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A motorcycle rider and his passenger were both sent to the hospital Tuesday after a rear-end crash in Ocean Beach, authorities said.

According to the San Diego Police Department, a 42-year-old man was riding his 2024 BMW motorcycle west on the 5100 block of Voltaire Street around 4:30 p.m. At the time, a 38-year-old woman was riding as his passenger.

Meanwhile, a 49-year-old man was driving a 2016 Honda CR-V west on Voltaire Street when he stopped at the stop sign at Bacon Street, police explained. At that point, the motorcycle rider reportedly failed to stop behind the vehicle, resulting in a rear-end collision.

Police said the woman was ejected during the crash. She sustained an open pelvic fracture and large cut to her scalp.

The motorcycle rider sustained severe burns to his body after the motorcycle caught fire. According to the department, his injuries are considered to be life-threatening.

The driver of the Honda had complaints of back pain following the crash.

Traffic officers responded to the scene and are investigating the collision. Police said DUI may have been a factor in this incident.
