Man tells MPD he’s ‘up to no good’ after burglary

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man told police officers he was ‘up to no good’ after getting caught burglarizing storage units on Thursday.

Officers were dispatched to U-Stor Self Storage on Prescott Road after the store’s manager told them that several units had been broken into.

As officers examined the scene, they saw two people running inside the business. Officers chased them and eventually detained and identified them as Eugene Moore and Tyesha Taylor.

When officers saw Moore running, they noticed bolt cutters in his hands.

Police say that when they asked Moore, 29, what he was doing inside the business, he said he was “up to no good” and that he had a baby on the way. He claimed he had to “do what he had to do”.

Moore also told police that Taylor, who said she was eight months pregnant, did not participate in anything.

After further investigation of the scene, officers noticed two lawnmowers and two 65-inch flat-screen TVs outside their respective units. In all, 22 storage units had their locks broken, but nothing was stolen from them.

The affidavit said officers also noticed a hole in the fence surrounding the business. The fence will cost $1,100 to replace.

Both Moore and Taylor were taken into custody and transported to Felony Response.

Taylor told officers that she woke up and didn’t see Moore there. When she walked around looking for him, she found him at the storage business and went inside after him.

Moore and Taylor were charged with burglary of a business and 22 counts of criminal attempted burglary of a building.

Moore was taken to 201 Poplar. Taylor was transported to Regional One Hospital due to abdominal pain and charging documents were brought to her there.
