Man steals his own SUV from auto shop at gunpoint: Police

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A St. Louis County man is accused of stealing his own SUV from an auto repair shop without paying for the work completed.

According to the St. Ann Police Department’s probable cause statement, the robbery took place on April 8 in the parking lot of a QuikTrip on St. Charles Rock Road near North Lindbergh Boulevard.

Police claim Daniel Strickland (age not provided) dropped off his 2017 Dodge Durango at an auto shop. He returned to pick up the vehicle but wanted to take the SUV on a test drive before paying the remaining balance.

A shop employee agreed and took the Durango for a test drive, with Strickland in the passenger seat. Police claim Strickland asked if they could pull into the QuikTrip to get gas.

When the repair shop employee pulled into the parking lot, Strickland allegedly took out a pistol and demanded he exit the SUV. The victim complied and Strickland drove away.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Strickland with first-degree robbery and armed criminal action. He remains jailed on a $500,000 cash-only bond. Strickland is due in court next week for a bond reduction hearing.
