Menacing suspect accused of using counterfeit bill and racial slurs

DENVER (KDVR) — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a man who is facing a charge of felony menacing after he allegedly presented a counterfeit bill to a business, and when confronted about the fake currency, began yelling racial slurs at the victim.

According to the agency, the incident occurred on May 8 at 52nd Avenue and Marshall Street, close to the Interstate 70 and Interstate 76 interchange in Arvada.

According to the sheriff’s office, a man presented a fake $50 bill to a food truck owner at the intersection. When the owner of the food truck confronted the man about the fake currency, the suspect reportedly began to argue and “directed racial slurs at the victim,” according to the sheriff’s office.

After arguing, the suspect reportedly reached into his bag and grabbed an object that the victim believed to be a gun, according to the agency’s report.

The suspect fled on foot, but not before the victim snapped a photo of the suspect.

Police are providing a suspect description of a young man with a “weak mustache,” light-colored hair, black clothing and a gray beanie and neck gaiter.
