Man shot in struggle with police during west Wichita domestic violence call

A news conference is planned for Wednesday afternoon in connection with a man shot after a struggle with Wichita police on Monday night.

The man’s condition is unclear.

The shooting happened after police were called around 10 p.m. to a domestic violence call near 13th and Tyler.

“Before they arrived, the suspect fled the scene,” police spokesperson Andrew Ford said in an email. “The officers left the call, but when the suspect returned to his residence, his wife called the police back out. A struggle between the officers and the suspect ensued, resulting in the suspect being shot.”

Ford referred all questions to the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, which is investigating the shooting as part of an agreement the agencies have in place. On Tuesday afternoon, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said she did not know the condition of the man shot.

The sheriff’s office will hold the news conference Wednesday afternoon, she said.
