Man shot pellet gun at woman, self in domestic violence case, police say

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A domestic violence incident left two people injured Wednesday night after police said a man shot a pellet gun at a woman and then himself in rural McMinnville.

Deputies from the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of gunshots heard during a disturbance near 4400 Southeast Riverside Loop. The caller claimed to have heard a .22 caliber gunshot and people yelling that someone may have been shot in the head.

Deputies detained multiple people on the property.

Investigators said the man shot a woman in the back of the head with a hand-pump pellet gun, then turned the weapon on himself. Both sustained injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital. Yamhill County Search and Rescue later found the weapon in a field near the home.

Authorities then determined the incident involved domestic violence between the household members and found multiple assaults were committed in addition to the shooting, including someone hit in the head with a piece of lumber.
