Police identify man shot, killed in northeast Wichita; one person in custody

A 34-year-old man was shot and killed shortly after noon Tuesday in northeast Wichita, police said.

Officers responded to a shooting call in the 1400 block of N. Minnesota. They found Norman E. Carter III of Wichita with multiple gunshot wounds in his upper body. He was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries, Wichita police spokesperson Kristopher Gupilan said.

A person of interest is in custody and detectives are talking to witnesses, Gupilan said.

The relationship between Carter and the person in custody is unknown, as is what led to the shooting. Police did not immediately respond to an inquiry for further details.

Several officers and detectives were observing and inspecting a black Jeep vehicle at the scene. Gupilan said police are figuring “out its role in this incident.”
