Man sentenced for 2022 murder in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A man has been sentenced for a December 2022 murder in Kalamazoo.

On Monday, a judge sentenced 28-year-old Jalani Darshawn Nowling to life without parole for first-degree premeditated murder and two years for felony firearm for the Dec. 30, 2022 murder of 29-year-old James Douglas White, Jr.

Nowling was found guilty by a jury in February.

“The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety extends its sincerest condolences to the friends and family of James Douglas White, Jr. We hope that this sentence will provide some measure of closure to all those affected,” the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said in a release.
